Good, safe fishing for juniors, Cornwall?
Good, safe fishing for juniors, Cornwall?
Hi all,
I'm taking the family down to Truro, Cornwall for a couple of weeks in the summer and want to take my son sea fishing for the first time. He'll be 7 years old by the time of the trip (August) and ready for an introduction.
I'd really appreciate recommendations of suitable and safe summer venues for juniors where he'll get his string pulled without too much waiting around (you know how quickly kids get bored), ideally float fishing to give him something to focus on, obviously he'll need ease of casting and will be using somewhat lighter tackle so I'm thinking jetties, breakwaters, piers, harbour walls or safe rock marks... Bait and tactics advice most welcome.
To narrow things down I'd say North Coast from St Agnes to Padstow, South Coast Mevagissey down to the Helford Passage...
I know it's months away but I'm one for lots of planning to get the best out of our trip, so any help and local knowledge will be very warmly received.
Cheers in advance!
Jeff

As we know those mullet can do your head in but it's a more active way of fishing and would keep your young lad interested. We did see mackeral bubbling up the estuary but did not fish for them, they were only 20/30 yrds out easy casting distance.Jeffb wrote:Cheers DAZ,
that sounds nice with the pub and steak on offer too! I might get him on the mullet but we know how fussy they can be, i'm honestly thinking Mackies and Gars with float fished sandeel (hopefully live)
but thanks for the heads up, nice to get some feedback.

Your holiday with Your Family
Hi my friend yes take your family down to mylor yacht harbour and marina, when I was last there the children were catching Mackerel by the score that was last September. Or if you prefer the resort of Newquay there is a place which we call Fly Cellars its just around the corner from the harbour. I hope you enjoy your holiday, if you want any more please get back to me.

I agree, spent most of my youth fishing Greenbank pier or Prince of Wales Pier.
Mackerel, Garfish aplenty in summer.
Pollock to.
