Going out from Whity in a few weeks, what would be the best rig set up and the best bait to use?

It sounds like you're going out on a boat- if thats right i'd check with the skipper what you're targetting and what bait /rigs are best

A couple of boat rigs I tend to use are a 3 hook flapper or a running ledger wit a 1 hook flapper above.

I never do but its a mater of personal choice, they tend to make more resistance against the tide = heavier weight.

I was thinking that it would keep the bait away from the main line so as not to spook the fish

Just use long snoods, and lower down gently so as to avoid tangles. If a fish is hungry it will take the bait no mater what.
