Handheld VHF

Post by Greg_Roy » Tue Jul 05, 2011 3:11 pm

Hi,

After a Handheld VHF, can anyone shout out some Makes/Models that are the "Bee's Knees" as when buying equipment like this it needs to be good and not fail me.

Many thanks

Greg

I believe the best you can purchase are those built by Icom. Having stated that, I have used a couple of Humminbird handhelds for many years without experiencing any problem. Your question was which are recognised as being the very best, I stick with my first statement, ICOM.

Some of the latest issues from manufacturers are now incorporating DSC GPS capability. I have used Lowrance sonar and GPS for over 30 years and found their products to be of more substantial construction than other leisure distributors. Their offering for the UK handheld is packed with features. It eliminates the requirement for a seperate GPS and can transmit positional data in emergency situations by pressing a single button.
