Charter fishing basic questions!

Post by Robie »

I have never been boat fishing so was thinking of doing a fishing charter as an individual to give it a try. i know when booking i should mention that i will need a rod and bait but since the weather is drawing in should i wait for next summer or still go in the winter time and what should i wear to to keep warm and dry? Or any recommendations for a complete newby?

Sea sickness pills taken 1hr before sailing
A Floatation suit is ideal or plenty of warm cothing with plenty of layers coupled with waterproofs are a second choice
Boots or wellies
Dont forget to find out if the skipper supplies bait

The winter fish are starting to show, whiting and codling

Give it a go

It's about 20 years since I've been out but check what rod and reel is supplied. Some give you a rod like a snooker cue and an old centerpin reel.
Like anything theres some bad skippers.
Oh, the reason I don't boat fish is that I'm terribly sea sick!

Give it a go. In some ways the winter could be better than the summer. An inshore/general reefing trip could be a good start as not so much time is spent steaming. In terms of clothing warm clothes and waterproofs are fine. Footwear should be non-slip, have fun.
