What size Engine?

Hi all after taking my boat (cjr 15ft) out on sunday for the first time, i am now thinking of getting a bigger engine and keeping 1 of my 15hp engines as a back-up, and i was just wondering what size engine i would be looking at getting so i could use my boat on the sea? dont get me wrong i could use it on the sea now but it wouldnt go very fast lol. How much id be looking at?.

If any1 on here has an engine for sale please let me know, or if any1 wants to swap and ill add some money aswell i have a Mariner 15hp engine for sale or swap in very gd condition.

a 35-50hp would be ideal for that buddy there should be a plate somewhere to tell you what maximum you can have i would guestimate at 50hp bein 15ft but a 40hp would keep you flying and there are lots on ebay but try and visit the person before bidding and check everything,a lot of peeps say dont buy off of ebay but i have never had any bother with outboards as i will always go and view them,also dont be put off if it looks like crap as it take a day to paint it up just concentrate on the engine itself, let me know if you are gonna view one and i will email you a nice big list of things to do and check

hi Andy i have a 30hp on my cjr and it is fast enough and very economical, it will cruise at 18 knots and it will reach around 28-30 knots with two adults on board fishing, the bigger engine will cost more to run, pete

The alternative would be to fit Doel fins on the engine cavaty plate to give it more lift.

the transom is only rated to take a maximum 40hp but i have seen people with 65hp engines on them but if you have an accident your insurance becomes void
