Southend Pier report 02/05/11

Post by actionsanta »

Well I bit the bullet and forked out to fish our magnificent Pier! I took along my mate Scott again, to show him a few things.....

We arrived at the Pier doors at 8am for the 8.30 train expecting a massive queue of anglers....Well there was three people on the first train which I thought was unusual for a Bank holiday Monday!

Well MY lesson in fishing started almost straight from the off. I was using 2/0 hooks with whole soft crab on a pennel pully rig whipped on with some elastic to keep it in place. Nothing for a least an hour. Whereas Scott was using size 1 hooks and was pretty much pulling everything in that swam.....I lost count with how many he caught. (I'm sure he will remind me on facebook later :)

Bite detection was down to zero today as the wind was proper blowing a hoolie from the N/E

I ended up with 1 small bass (caught with crab) and 2 whiting caught with blow lug. I cannot emphasize enough to him that I am sick of catching small fish (When not match fishing lol) and will sit there quite happily all day with a massive bait waiting for a massive fish. He just sat there laughing all day.

I did think I had a corker of a fish....Only to find Scott rattling the end of my rod...(No comments please Snagger, we all know!) Sod.

So that's enough teaching me thinks especially when the pupil starts to out fish the teacher...(he is going on and on about being a real fishing jedi or some other rubbish :) )

See you all on the 28th.

Tight lines

Steve.

Hi Steve,

So Scott was tugging on your rod was he, a must remember not to drop the

soap when you are around then, backs to the wall lads, =)) =)) =)) =))

So often my eldest son out fishes me and he always takes the P*ss when he

does, I sometimes have to remind myself that I am the fish god :)) :)) :))

I was on Walton Pier yesterday with Lenny (Ducker), the wind was mental,

we expected wind to 20mph but it seemed more like 120mph, still we had

a good session, I will put a report on the East forum tomorrow.

I've not fished Southend Pier for about 9 months so will have to get up

there soon, maybe we can have a meet up mate,

see you on the 28th if not before,

Keep Em Tight,

Tim B-)
