Sandown Castle - Deal 28th October

Post by Swordfish »

A little late with the report I'm afraid...... but here it is anyway.

I fished the night tide up on 28th Oct between 10.00pm and 2.00am. Gentle south, south-easterly breeze with a relative calm sea but a very strong tide. Best of the fishing was an hour before high water although whiting were desperate to be caught from the very first cast, despite the rather large lug and squid cocktail baits on a Pennell rig. I had two rods out, one very short to medium range the other at max range. It was about 50/50 on the total catch rate but the best fish of the night came on the distance rod.

Total tally up - 21 whiting (5 decent sized 1lb +) and 4 dogfish (1 really good chunky one, must have been knocking on the 3lb mark).

The strong right to left spring tide rip along the beach was proving a little tricky, especially on the long range rod - I lost 3 or 4 rigs with the tide pulling me into some pretty nasty snags. Generally another good nights fishing though so no grumbles here.

Tight lines all
