Sea Fishing Angling

Been looking forward to a Dungee trip for a while, I orderd some fresh blacks from dungeness fish and they let me pick em up at 9pm also bought in some frozen blacks, razor clams and falkland unwashed sqiud.

I wanted to fish from LW 7pm - Hw 2am but was running late and fished 9.30 - 4am, I was looking for early codling/cod like most people so wanted to bait big to avoid bait robbing whiting. Fished 1 rod with pulley pennel size 4/0 viking Kamasans, punching out 2-3 blacks tipped with squid head or razor clams.

is this over kill on the bait? (never had a cod you see) and i was landing a whiting or dog every 10 mins.

on the last 2 casts i lobbed out 2 hole sqiud at a time 60yrds had two SLAMMING!!! bites but being half asleep i struck and missed each time, so i tried letting whatever it was suck the bait in and swallow but it never happend just bang bang bang! then nothing.
some fellas down from me at 1pm let out a cheer but didnt get to see what they had, maybe COD! if it was you let us know

oh yea, forgot to mention i finished up with 20 whiting and a dog.

Whiting are a pain ain't they.

Cod fishing should pick up at Dungeness after we have had some strong South Westerly winds. Once we have 3-4 strong SW winds then veering round North the fish should hopefully show.

It's hard getting through the whiting, I never seem to manage it no matter how big the hooks and bait.

But where there's whiting soon there'll be cod!
