The secret is to keep the bait away from the bottom, you could try floatfishing,
Cheers

One thing Ive notied that has worked is when I make my own rigs, I put about 5 small black floting beads on the length of line with my hook, that usually does the trick with a work or so, heavier baits im not sure about, but anything is worth a shot right?

i use a 3hook flapper ect and use sum old bait like herring or sum scrap bits of meat from work (handy being a butcher) on the bottom hook, and hopefully that keeps them busy on that and leave ur other 2hooks alone :-/

Thats not a bad idea with the bits of meat, would never have thought of it myself, but might have to give that a go next outing :D

I have heard of bigger bait like a mack sausage being made up using finger bandage to stop the crabs breaking it up to quickly, you could always make one up and strap it behind your sinker to keep it streamlined for casting, keep the crabs busy and all your hooks fishing.

Sound a bit crazy up it might work. Let me know if you try it
