I live 15 miles inland. One time I stopped at the meat counter and asked for a dozen prawns the clerk asked if I was going fishing. Yes, why? She said anytime someone gets a few like that they're for fish bait. So it must be pretty common.

Had a couple of cod on the raw tiger prawns. Also used cooked pink shrimps which is a good bait for flatties and eels, all i used to use in the river years ago when i was a kid, at 80p a pint, was all i could afford anyway.

Last time I went out I nipped into ASDA (other supermarkets are available) and picked up some own-brand prawns, and mussels, and proceeded to use prawns tipped off with the mussels.
Not sure if it was the rose-marie sauce or the garlic that kept the fish at bay! >:)

Got some live prawns/shrimps in the summer, out fished crab bait over rough ground for Doggies, Pouting. Hounds love them as well.
