Futility with the fly rod

Post by Iknowagoodplaice » Fri Sep 07, 2012 7:27 pm

Weather fine, winds lightish, so tried my luck at CN with the underused fly rod. Waders dusty, wading boots looking as though they'd had a dusting of snow, then in the sea a chilly creeping sensation down my left leg, later one down my right leg. When breathable waders leak they really leak. And all they'd done was hang on the wardrobe for a couple of seasons.

As for the fishing, plenty of small mullet playing in the waves - ignored all flies unitl I'd had enough. One minature bass, smallest I've ever caught on a clouser. The occasional bigger fish running the tide around a spit but no interest in the flies of myself or the 3 others fishing.

Those naturists on the beach - exhibitionists I think, the way they wander back and forward along the shingle. Keep your gaze seaward; there are worse sights than a bassless sea.
