I lived in Exmouh for many years and I have to say there is not much point in bothering with Sandy Bay. Much better to go to Budleigh Salterton or at the right state of the tide, Exmouth Dock area. I had some great bass fishing with lures around the Exmouth Dock area back in the 90's, pollack too although not that big. BTW, don't try bottom fishing in the Exmouth Dock area, it is very snaggy due to the amount of junk which is chucked in there by the local chavs.

any idea what lures work best there? i only have a small collection. (due to the fact i live on the bristol channel) I was thinking of taking a few dexter wedges and a couple of poppers.

Lures: Being a simple soul, I just tied a realistic rubber eel about 18 inches behind a drilled bullet (for casting weight). Bearing in mind your "collection", I would try both until I get a result.
Nothing wrong with a good bass rod - I have used mine for lures and bait casting no problem.

Oh, didn't realise you were going this time of year - with the water temperatures being quite low at present I doubt if the bass will be very active.
