Hi mate,

Not sure if this will help too much however I fish that area on a regular basis and it is reasonably sheltered from everything but a southerly wind.

Waves are normally just a swell opposed to crashing breakers and leads hold ground very well. This would seem to indicate that tidal pull is easily manageable.

When the line fishermen hunt for mackerel they drift quite slowly which could be good if you intend to drop a line and then let you kyack drift for a bit.

Thatchers Bay is particularly known for its congers so you could end up on a spped kyack if you hook a big one!

Good luck either way.
