Best places are harbours and estuaries at low tide mate. There must be some not too far away from you - how about the Tamar estuary? By the way I find that they will keep for at least two or three days in seawater in the bottom of the fridge. Don't try to freeze them though they just turn to mush.

bit late
it might be a bit far but the exe estuary is good for lugworm and there quite a few snake white that turn up.

defo try the tamar mate. the area around st johns lake has plenty of casts, but be very, VERY careful around there, the mud in places is treacherous.
