caught a few! plus pics

Post by fill » Mon Aug 31, 2009 5:21 pm

On tuesday there was a break in the weather so we headed to the north coast.we went to carne weather between polzeath and port isaac. My son had never caught gar fish before so that is what he targeted. Using a float set at 3 feet with small strips of mackeral he was soon adding the gar to his catch list!! I had feathers and had half a bucket of macks... small pollock also made a showing when we set the float deeper. After a couple of hoursinto the tide two guys came, caught some macks and then live baited them under a float!!! 15 mins later a 5lb bass was on the rocks!!! I have never done or seen that before but it was great to learn something new. On Saturday we headed south to Salcombe estuary at east portlemouth. First time we have been there but i read it is good for flatties. Rag on the bottom in line with the rock in the middle got us a few plaice!! Another 1st for my son!! So all these reports about no fish around, i just say never give up!!!!! tight lines, phil and connor :D Image
sorry about pics!

Great report, was just wondering at what tide did you catch? Have been around that area down at the rumps and have only had a few mackeral around high tide.

Cheers Si

hi.. we went at low water but only started to catch after 1 1/2 hours. gar in close, bass at feet to the left macks out far.. at rumps i normally catch at any time as its deeper there but sometimes a long way out. At carne weather i let the lead hit the bottom to try to attract fish to the small sand cloud that forms, as if sand eels were moving. you can do that as there are no snags there. hope it helps. phil
