Casting

I am having trouble casting distances to catch fish.

When im in a field practiceing, i can cast up to 90 yds
( is this gd for a 14 yr old)

but when i get to the sea i can only cast about 50yds

i dont know what im doing wrong or right and im conused?

any tips?

hi goerge thats not a bad distance for a 14yr old you will probably find that your distance hasnt change much its just that casting into moving water is deceiving compared with casting in a field but also remember when you cast on land you dont have the added drag of bait, hope this helps

Also wind direction effects the distance when you cast

Hello George.
Not sure where you fish along south Devon coast. But I fish up around Branscombe & Seaton way a fair bit. If you are fishing any of these locations PM me and I can try and help sort you out.
Alternatively contact Honiton Sea Angling club. Not now but in summer they practice and teach every Wednesday night I believe. And that's with a real expert.

Also go on to u tube , some good stuff on there, about basics. Even John Holden , it was his book years ago that got me casting proper.

Main thing is to make the Rod do the work. Have a look at link of John Holden.
