Lack of fish @ Chesil (Portland end)

Post by sirroms69 »

Me and a pal went to Chesil (Portland end) Sunday to get a few Macky for a BBQ and managed to land 8 fish from between 10:30AM to 5:30PM. The same time last year we got about 30+ between 3 of us. A couple of them on Sunday were the length of my hand (these went back in) my mate who was with me had fished the previous weekend and caught both tides and almost the same results. We also had a couple of rods in with frsh rag, hardly a nibble.
Has anybody else noticed small catches and small fish or hopefully we were just unlucky?

I'm affraid I've noticed the same thing at Abbotsbury this season, a lot of smaller mackerel are showing up and the quantity of bigger fish are not what they were last year. Maybe next year will be better, if only the trawler boys would give them a break instead of vacuuming them up by the ton. :((

I've fished West Bexington 7 or 8 times this summer (?) with very poor results also, sometime a complete blank - not even a macky in 24 hours!
Lets hope things improve soon.
