Vacation in Freshwater - Where to fish?

Post by MrBeer » Tue May 18, 2010 12:19 pm

Hi all,

Going down to IOW for a week in late June and we're staying at the Hoseasons in Freshwater. I plan to get out for at least one night for a spot of fishing, where's best around this area?

Also we're a few minutes walk from the beach and I plan to take my daughter with me for a day fishing outing at some point, are the beaches in that area any good for fishing?

Never been before so I'm a total newbie to the area.

Also, where's the best local place for bait? I assume I can't go wrong with good old lug?

Thanks

hi freshwater bay is very good but very rocky, expect a lot of lost tackle.

the best bits are just along at the chale chine and whale chine (whale chine might not be advisable on a first visit) both are on the military road.

from there you can catch bass, and good rays on bluey and sandeel with a pulley pennal rig.

nearby is fort victoria as well which has really deep water relitivly close in, does however have a very strong tide so grip lead and catching the tide at the right time is essential.

hope that is of some help.

tight lines...

The Tackle shop in Totland is very good. When I'm on the Isle I use it and its not to far from Freshwater Bay. The chippy in Freshwater is very good too, the best in the area, if you get hungry.... :D
