hook size

Post by maniacmark » Tue Mar 27, 2012 5:36 pm

Hi, I have just booked to go on my first boat trip since I was about 14, What size hook and trace type should I be looking at making?.
It will be out of Dover not sure where to but a rough guide would help. I mainly fish the beaches around Folkestone/Hythe area using 2 hook flappers with anything from a 1 to a 3/0 on a (pennel).

Thanks
Mark

Assuming the skipper is aiming for some decent size pollack/cod I would go for 4/0 or 6/0. On the other hand if conger are the target you could go bigger still. Standard rig for boat fishing is a paternoster with french boom, snood length is a matter of choice but should be at least 3 ft IMO.

Would stick to 3/0 to 4/0 for this time of year ;)
