How to use a float ?

I have never used a float set up for use in the sea but have always fancied giving it a bash, has anyone got any hints or tips that are worth trying.
I fish mainly out of Shoreham either on the beach or harbour arm.

My main way is to slide the float on my leader then a bullet weight two feet below, tie a swivel to the end of the leader then tie your hook length onto the swivel. You need to be able to fix the float so the line doesn't slide through it but do it in a way that you can adjust the position of the float at any time as this will determine the depth of the hook.
Most tackle shops sell float packs which have a float, weight and hook and instructions on how to tie them.
The weights are quite small in these packs so they don't cast far. If you want to cast further buy ball floats which can take about 3oz weight which casts ok.
Just play around and it becomes pretty clear!!

i just got back from portugal, i bought 2 really good floats, they are 100 grams they have a svivwl attached to the top for the main line and 2 swivels at the bottom for snoods, you dont need any other weight since they are easily castable and dont float with them
