Using spinners on Gower Beach

Post by Tankpants »

I've often seen people fishing from the Rhossili Beach (near Hillend) in the past, usually at dusk. I'm off there shortly and have some mackerel spinners. As you'll gather, I'm new to finshing so have a few questions:

Are spinners suitable for beach finishing?
Is dusk a good time to try?
Any other tips?!

Many thanks.

Hello Tankpants, yes spinners are good for sea fishing and not just the mackerel the last time I was there I was after the bass that frequent the area. Dawn and dusk are the best times to try for these as the lower light levels help them feel safer to come in and helps to fool them into taking spinners or plugs. If its warm, wade out up to your waist and cast the spinner or lure around you.
Bites on spinners, lures and plugs are usually pretty savage so you should get a good scrap. :D
If theres a south westerly breeze thats fairly light, put a ragworm on a hook and try for the golden grey mullet, these are quite elusive and not many anglers have caught them so it would be an extra feather in your cap. :D :D :D
