i started with a leeda olympic 12'.....not a fantastic rod, not overly sensetive, but inexpensive and solid........ hope this helps

Fladen powerstick, reatively cheap and will do the job.

Sorry kirk to disagree with you but the fladden will cast up to 9oz and diawa moonraker up to 6oz.
