winter sea loch fishing

hi folks - new to the forum and not sea angled for a long time . I have moved up form the south east coast (dunbar to st abbs area) and used to catch cod in winter in the past . I have moved up to Ullapool -an area I know well in summer for pollock and mackerel from the rocks - but what do I do winter fishing up here when these fish are gone? I have had a few casts from the shore in the last week but it seems dead - using squid bait and sandeel. is it worth fishing the sea loch itself or should I head for open sea coast ? any info would be great - cheers !
