Sea Bass, not here they say!

I was told that there is no Sea Bass on the N/E coast of Scotland, sounds a bit of a dissapointment, as I am wanting to try and catch one.
Will I have to go South to fish for them?

Probably you will have to. They don't like it too cold and going back a few years, they used to abandon the south coast too in winter and head off to Cornish waters or the Bay of Biscay. Even though I live and fish down here in the south, I still don't expect to catch them after Christmas until around April. Anyway what's wrong with Cod in your part of the world? I think they have a better flavour than bass although some might argue that.
