Last night report St Abbs

Post by fishhunter »

Fished with mac47 from 7.30pm over high tide until about 12.30am.
Wind started blowing NE and roughed up the sea a bit which started to look promising and we were both fishing 2 rods.
Bait was black lug/macky/squid/mussels/razor fish and crabs.
Only caught 5 rockling between both of us of which a couple of them were quite decent for rockling.
Not a great session but enjoyable all the same and it didnt get too cold in the wind.
Will try again soon

I have never see so many rockling from one venue and if we had been using smaller hooks would probably caught a lot more. I also didn't know they were so voracious, one of fishhunters had corkwing wrasse sticking out of its mouth with only the tail showing. The rockling were all small three beardies, not one over a 1/4 lb.
I would have taken Gordons advice but I couldnt think of anywhere else we could have fished in the conditions. In fact as we left it was getting to the dodgy stage and the wind hadn't really got up. Would guess that when the gale came it would be horrendous.
Still for the non-party animals amongst us tthe N.E gales may just bring in a few more cod.
The A9/92 beckons :)

Good point. At least you know for certain that xmas is coming having a party with the cod is looking less and less likely this year,at least for me.
Just wondering if the rumour is true that you soak your bait in lager at this time of year?? =P~
