does any know if you have to have a rod licence to fish any part of the river hamble a mate told me you dont but im not sure if not where is the best part and rig cheers

Usually one does not need a licence where an estuary is tidal/brackish. Problem is deciding where this might be so best to stick to the lower reaches where it is obvious - presence of seaweed/lug casts, etc.

i did fish it just past the motorway bridge and yes i would have had more luck in the puddle in my drive lol :-S

Bass and Mullet follow the tide up the Hamble. However, it is very weedy and messy up there. Mullet will take a bread bait but they spook very easily. Bass will take a lure but could be under-sized. Bottom fishing is doomed due to crabs. Have fun.

The Hamble can be good for flounder during December , iv'e had them to 1.3/4 lb and ive seen them over 2lb , rag worm on long trace with beads works well.
