Beach fishing for cod!

Post by Jebend » Fri Oct 29, 2010 8:11 pm

Hello everyone, ive just joined these forums, use to fish about 5 years ago and slowly forgot any knowledge i had, and now i've started fishing again, i feel a bit clueless about somethings and i know the best thing to do is ask! there seems to be so much contradicting information on the internet about different baits etc, but i thought id ask to see what your thoughts are, what do you think is the best bait for me to use for cod fishing? ive heard squid is quite good putting it on whole, but is that putting a whole 6 inch squid on? sorry if the question is a bit basic but im still learning! any information you can provide will be brilliant, i live in bognor and ive heard selsey is quite good? ah i seem to be rabbiting on so any advice you can give will be brilliant!

Cheers,
Jebend

From what I have heard, your nearest spot for cod is probably Pagham. As far as squid is concerned, my tackle shop does two sizes of squid - the biggies which you have mentioned and packets of smaller ones which are just about ideal for cod hunting being around 3-4 inches long. If your tackle shop doesn't do them, they need to get thir act together.

Hi Jebend, welcome to the Forums.
Personally I would talk to anglers from the area that you intend to fish - they will know the best baits for that area (not all areas are the same). Also, try reading the Forum for your geographic area (presumably, in your case, the South one). I am sure that you will find good advice from a local angler there.
Hope this is useful.
Cheers, Geoff
