Looking for mark near Soton with a good chance of catching

Post by KOMISARUK »

Just returning to fishing after a 20 year break (life got in the way!) and I'm looking for a shore mark in the Southampton area that offers a good chance of catching something (anything!). I want to take my 7-year old lad for his first taste of fishing, so a mark where you can just dangle your tackle over the side is preferable to somewhere that requires long casting. Any suggestions?

Welcome back to the great hobby of fishing, if you look at the reports on here you will see that the town quay is spot on for your requirements. there has been some good fish caught lately, also a lot of the forum members fish there and are a great bunch of lads who are always willing to give advice. tight lines

welcome back to the fold, the town quay is the best place at the moment but it does get busy, even more so now after the superb reports. :)

Try Magazine Lane , its the same stretch of water and only half a mile or less up from Town Quay.
Last week i had a decent thorne back , sole and a place in daylight.
Its a deep water mark where two or three hook scratchers do well , big baits on pulleys could bring in just about anything but right now a one off and one nailed to the bottom trace seems to do well.
Google it ?

Thanks for the warm welcome and great suggestions. I had been considering Town Quay and went over there to take a look. I noticed that there was a rather large and damaged "No Fishing" sign. Does anyone enforce this?

Dont worry about the signs mate , its only the car park thats private , the path that runs around the outside where we fish is public right of way , and security are great there , not your typical hoodlum , they even let you park for free as long as you fish by your car.
Cheers
Pete
