Post by smallfry »

went to a super market saturday to get some bait came away with a really nice mackerel but the question is if the legal keeping limit is 35 to 40cm noticed size differs around the country but in super markets the size is roughly 25 to 30cm how can this be? any info is welcome

I could be wrong, but my guess is, the fish are bought from foreign trawlers/countries. and our size limits wouldnt apply. Cheers..Mick

the fish are sold as 'farmed' usually in the mediteranean countries.

There is no minimum size for farmed fish.

they should be labelled as such.... not 'wild' or 'locally caught'.

Thanks for clearing that up it doesn't seem right though but I guess it's just down to profit like with chickens. Does anyone know which month you should plant the bass in is it January or march? >:) >:)
