Bream tend to be a summer species in the UK and are caught on various baits, but I've found harbour rag to be the most effective from the piers.I usually use a small size 14 carp hook on a light spinning rod with 4lb breaking strain line.Use a 2oz drilled bullet lead and paternoster rig, presenting the bait just off the bottom of the seabed. This set up is also effective for triggerfish and garfish, though garfish prefer strips of sandeel as a bait.

I am no expert, only fished about 15 times so far, but the majority of what I have caught is Bream.

Harbour Ragworm on a no 2 hook , pasternoster setup , tip the rag worm with frozen limpet if you fancy a change. Ensure you thread the ragworm onto the hook - ie put the hook point through the mouth & feed the worm onto the hook - watch out though the buggers bite :x

In one 3 hour session I caught 7 bream using this rig.

Have fun :D
