my original post certainly caused a lot of interesting debate :) however back to the original question ;) assuming I/we are happy to use live bait, is it actually worth it anywhere off the Southend beaches or is the likelhod of catching something big enough to take a live bait so small that I'd be w...

original post wasn't meant to initiate a serious debate though I must agree with kopitecol's sentiments. The only issue I have with live baiting is that it always strikes me as contradictory to our usual support of returning small fish. I know live bait doesn't end up on a plate but it still is in e...

wishbone rigs

Have had some success fishing with these but always find they get tangled, particulary my hope tied ones. I waste to much time on the beach untangling a mess when I should be fishing - any suggestions to avoid this welcomed

Live baiting off southend

Having caught so many pin whiting this evening I was tempted to try & use one or two as live bait.

Didn't bother in the end as felt likelhood of anything big enough to take them being there was very small

ANyone had success with this?

Thorpe Bay 16th Oct

Even though it's small tides this weekend I thought it might be worth a go this evening as the nights are drawing in. So armed with some freshly dug lug plus some nice rag & squid from Jetty Anglers I wandered down to the beach just opposite the Roslin. Fished two rods with a mix of baits one had a ...

Thorpe Bay is east of southend - officially it starts at Lifstan Way and runs to the Shorehouse Pub. We were actually fishing opposite the Roslyn Hotel.

Sea bed is mostly mud flats, the section from the Castle Pub to Ocean beach is more shingle & mussel beds

Thorpe Bay for Tea

Having spent hours digging bait took the kids down to Thorpe Bay Bastion twice to drown them (the worms that is ;) ) Three rods out all with two hook flappers at varying distances. My youngest is only nine & on a good day can manage a cast of about 15 foot - yet he had 3 schoolies (one from about 3 ...

bait digging in southend - where am I going wrong?

just got back from a 2 hour session digging at southchurch grand total in my bucket 1 rag worm, 50ish lug worm - whilst that is enough for my needs tomorrow (rain permitting) it is a poor return for the time taken & the amount of beacch turned over at times there are as many as 12-15 worm casts in l...

Hi Rich,

what is the annual membership fee for the club? adults & junior? are there anyother costs incurred other than buying a round in TEAC?

I assume membership of TEAC isn't a requirement

any other information would be very welcome

more miss than hit with my personal experience Richard, have heard many good reports but the only evidence of a catch is the one pic posted on this forum a few weeks ago

that & have seen sizeable bass swimming around the pier

as has been said already there are differning view points to a situation of this nature. however there are enough in the "anti-fishing, it's cruel brigade" out there who enjoy knocking our sport without us resorting to a bit of infighting over keep or release. well done mate fabulous fish - one that...

Thorpe Bay 5th June

following a useless session on Barge Pier which didn't even warrant a report I decided to get up at 4.30 am today and use up the rest of my bait at Thorpe Bay. Only a small tide & very little movement on the water but was worth being there just for teh sunrise & fabulous day. Lots of bites but only ...
