Barge Pier/Thorpe Bay

Had a succesful bait diging trip today & plan to dig more tomorrow with a view to fishing thursday morning - anyone had any positive reports recently from Barge Pier or Thorpe Bay beach?

what the papers say!!!

angling section of the Echo reports a 4lb skate being caught off southend pier, along with siezable eels and pleny of mackerel

barge pier is good for bass & mackerel too

anyone knwo how accurate these reports are?

if you have a facebook account there is agroup on there called pembrokeshire sea angling club looking at the pictures it is a mixture of shore and boat fishing but it may prove useful. I keep reading posts about Sole being caught & would love to have a go myself.

Having dug a good bucket I took my lads to beach opposite the Roslin Hotel in Thorpe Bay

Havig dug my own bait for years on southend sea front I have always come back from digging with a good mixed bucket of decent sized rag & lug. this year I am still finding big lug but rarely a rag to be found and certainly no decent sized ones or king rag. any one else finding this or am I digging t...

Advice please

Had to abandon my fishing trip today & so, unless I can get tomorrow/thursday, i have my bait to dispose of.

I recall a post some time ago about salting lug to keep them long term but can't find it. Can someone point me in the right direction or pass on the instructions please?

have caught many flounders from the pier &/or beach at southend & have always taken the sizeable ones for the pot.

They have a great flavour if cooked in butter & lemon juice & are a tasty addition to fish pie or stew :D
