i went mackeral fishing last month in ilfracombe at capstone rocks we did'nt catch any though, we where using mackeral feathers just kept getting caught on the submerged rocks with the weight.

this link is a good north devon angling club and you will find all the good fishing spots on there for north devon http://www.cmsac.co.uk/ for bait i use lugworm or peeler grab but i don't know about tackle shop's doing bait in ilfracombe, i get my bait from a barnstaple tackle shop in boutport stre...

this reply maybe a bit late now,
but when i was a teenager living in totnes we always fished on the island side of the bridge and never on the weir side of the bridge.

used to be a good for bass and mullet in those days on the island (park).

I found a size listing on a north devon angling club website that bass is 18'' (about 46cm).
