Smashed Rod - Greys GRX-s

just got a new rod today, a Greys GRX-s. Took it down the field to test it out. First 4 casts gentle 140yrds things seemed ok so wound it up for the big one. SNAP the rod went at the 5th ring from the tip clean break. Not a very good advert for a new rod?????? Has anyone else had trouble with them !...
