With carp and other freshwater style rods you should multiply the test curve by 5 to find the maximum recomended hooklink strength. So a 2,1/2 lb test curve means max hooklink of 12,1/2 lbs BS. General casting wieght recomendation is 1oz / lb Test curve so 2,1/2 lb rod should be able to cast a 2,1/2...

Its the perfect dual purpose rod. Loads of low down power and a sensitive tip. Just be careful with the twist lock handle, don,t overtighten it or over slacken it or it will stop working. Needs only half to three quarters of a turn from locked to unlocked. Casts well when extended and makes fighting...

Depends on the tide , anything 4-8 oz , but always grippers so you don,t drift across other anglers lines.

Down you,re way they tend to fish both uptide and downtide. It might pay you to buy a combo uptide/ downtide rod like the Abu Esprit or Suveran uptide / downtide combo , or the Abu Conolon travel uptide/ downtide combo rod that veals.co.uk have on offer . Means you can fish either style and double y...

Use the Sidewinder shimmer eels with the offset Owner jig hooks, they look the real deal and are great for macky. Not seen Gars up here to try them on but I bet they,ll be good.

Sounds like its on fire up there. Need to get up soon for my fix of kelpies.
Were you fishing near to the Falls of Lora / Connell bridge when you got into the kelpies, as thats my usual catching spot.

Plug FY7 8PG into your electronic lose yourself machine.
Watch out for the groins as they like cutting line.

Extra weight with plugs, and poppers is a big no-no , will totally screw up their action. Ball / barrel leads or split shot Can be used with shads, eels, gulp and toby,s, to get a faster rate of sink, in deeper water/ fast tidal flows. Feather the line as you near the end of your cast to stop line ta...

I,ve only used it on 4 sessions, but caught on 3 of them when I,d given up on plugs, shads and eels. The only session when I didn,t catch with it, I used it for about an hour then put it back in the pack and used it the next day. I must admit that it just disintigrated in the first fishes (bass) mou...

Tried them last year for freelining bread for mullet. Worked very well as all three takes I had led to secure hookups and landed fish.
Not tried it with anything else yet but could be a good way of fishing limpits.

Will make a good pier rod, I use my Esprit for boat and pier and deep rock marks.
Get a drop net though as I,ve seen rough ground rods snap trying to lift doggies up the side of a pier.

Gulp does work over here as long as its treated as a lure and worked on spinning tackle as its designed to be. The peeler is good for bass and pollock, when freelined into rocky kelp jungles.Treat it like shads or plastic eels. Though I must admit the real deal is better, but I always have a pack wi...

The 2 block Abu,s are always a little more flighty than the later 4 and 6 block ones. The most unpredictable were the ones with two fibre/cork? blocks that could be brilliant one cast then useless the next. You always need a well trained thumb if you want to get max distance as the more brakes you u...
