you are asking a lot for one rod to do effectively !! For spinning and plugging you really need a rod rated at 10-40g or 15-50g to get the best results with a 3000-4000 size Shimano Exage / Seido reel. This will also handle a 1oz lead and bait for flatties and bass, look at the Blackrock travel rods...

I,ve been using braid for all my sea angling , both shore and boat for the last 3 years. Never a problemwith 15lb on Abu Revos with plugs, and Abu Record and Revo Toro with 30lb and 50lb, for shore and boat. If you are based near Somerset, you would do yourself a big favour by contacting Phil Hyde, ...

Avoid the Fladens for your area. Best of the cheapies for up there is the Ron Thompson Axellerator. Also worth looking at the Shakey MTI 300. Otherwise look at Conoflex or Ziplex.
Probably best to go and scope out your old marks and chat to the lads who now fish them.

There are good deals on the Shakey Salts at the moment as they,ve now brought out the Salt XT range, but the older ones are a sound rod, the Bass and the Beach MX (for multis) are the best of the shore rods.

If you want levelwind either the Record 60/61 HC or the Inshore 6500/6501c3 but also worth looking at the Abu Revo Toro 60/61 HS, which has the same line capacity as the round reels but is low profile with bigger, stronger gears and stronger drag. Review on tackletour.com. Also look at akios reels w...

Just google, Bass lure fishing blogs, or jersey bass guides, for all the info you,ll need.

I personally use shallow diving plugs like the IMA Komomo or Maria Angel kiss or Maria Chase BW or Abu tormentor or sidewinder paddletails. Work them slowley for best effect.
