A Fishy Tail

Seven pm, Friday September 7th - A gloriously warm and sunny day gave way to an equally agreeable evening. The mark I was to fish is only accessible on foot, or better still by mountain bike. Sky and sea fused into a never ending cobalt mass as I stepped from the deserted, sandy beach into the warm ...

On Your Marks

I guess that good marks are a bit like cars. Great fun when they are shiney and new, when you can't wait to show them off to friends and take them along for a ride. Of course, as far as the general public is concerned, the car remains out of view in the garage. But like cars, marks become worn, thro...

Ever since I've been catching them....had a few nasty jabs! Dorsal fin is very similar to a bass in that respect.

Can You Tell The Difference Between Bass And Mullet?

Can you tell the difference between bass and mullet? I used to think that I could, but now I'm not so sure. The confusion began last weekend, when a two day mullet mission threw up bass rather than the intended quarry....see the following link for details http://ukswff.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&...

Bass Blitz

This weekend was supposed to be a 'mullet weekend', two days spent chasing the grey ghosts under perfect tidal conditions and temperatures more akin to Puerto Rico than Portsmouth. The mulethon kicked off at 5.20am on Saturday morning, when I was joined by Suffolk angler Nev, for an introduction to ...

Heatwave Mullet

Sunday July 22nd - With a heatwave starting to exert its grip on the south coast, I simply could not resist the temptation of a cast or two on the evening ebb. Conditions were perfect, water with clarity of gin, a soft, warm breeze and reasonable numbers of mullet moving in the surf. Hopefully the m...

50 Shades of Grey Mullet

Work could not finish quickly enough on Friday. The smiling BBC weatherman had announced to the nation, as they tucked into their tv dinners on Thursday evening, that summer was well and truly on the way. After months of monsoonal rains and frigid winds, the thought of Friday evenings promise of war...
