Fishing report - Samphire Hoe 4/7

Couldn't decide where to try as I knew that Shoreham harbour arm would be packed but had also been disappointing recently. Got inspired by some posts (cheers Folky, Dabhand and Mulletover) from the South East forum and decided (with some tackle loss trepidation!) to give Samphire Hoe a go. Brilliant...

Nice one! Want a thornie and a smut this summer so at least a little envious! Sounds like you had a good day all round.

Nice to see that there are still flounders around - not seen many of them for far too long now! Is Inn on The Beach the pub by the ferry pontoon inside Langstone Harbour Entrance? We used to seine net sandeels from the sand banks just near there in years gone by (before it became a bass nursery area...

Catch reports - Elmer, Hayling and Shoreham

As promised, here's a quick update on my recent expeditions. Friday 22/6 - managed an evening session from low tide up at Elmer Sands by the rock piles. Used locally dug lug and, in between mountains of weed (mind there's always plenty at Elmer!), I pulled out half a dozen scrappy schoolies around 1...

Shoreham Harbour report 21/6

Fished Shoreham yesterday - first time I've managed to get out sea fishing in months! Pretty slow day, unfortunately, with just a single sizeable bass on floatfished prawns by the Coastwatch Tower. Fished the western arm from mid-tide with floatfished half sandeel and got several finicky takes that ...

Busadon I spent a week fishing in Jersey 3 years ago and, if you're wanting to go lure fishing, your best bet is to go to Noirmont and fish by the lighthouse over low tide. You have to clamber down the cliff (it's not hard, really) and then get across a gully to the point where the lighthopuse sits....

Codweasel. Shoreham west harbour arm can be a very good spot. In spring/summer, I've had good bass, black bream, flounders, twaite shad, mackerel, garfish, golden grey mullet, plaice, tub gurnard and ballan wrasse. If bottom fishing, use smallish hooks with worm baits (either lug or harbour rag will...

Haven't heard much about any flounders coming up recently. About this time of year they seem to migrate offshore to spawn, so that may be the reason for it being slow at the moment. Kev

Afraid not, but I know from another sea fishing blog that the species from Pevensey to Petts Level are pretty much the same at this time of year and the dabs should start to come on properly soon. Best bet for bait is old wrapped black lug tipped with a little squid for the dabs (and rockling, pout,...

Fished White Horses (Eastbourne end of Pevensey Bay) on 2/1 and got a rockling, dab and whiting on lug. Bit slow at the moment, I'm afraid.

Cheers

You can pump black lug at Greatstone and Littlestone beaches just to the east of Dungie but they are both very shallow so the tide recedes a very long way and you need to be a fair way out to find the black lug casts.....

Good options include Shoreham (west of the western harbour arm - see Busadon's recent report), East Preston (for flatties mainly), and Elmer (though it's been quiet there recently). This time of year, it's typically better at night though you can pick up flatties on worm or slipper limpet in dayligh...

I hope you're right about the snow for tonight - I might have to "work from home" if I get snowed in! Worthing Pier might be another option for an evening session - no casting required and you should get all the species you'd get from the shore. I'd expect whiting, pout, maybe doggies, flatties and,...
