Well? Don't keep us in suspense, have you broken that bass duck yet? If not, and you don't mind travelling to W Sussex, I can put you on a virtual cert (no size guarantee, though).

Cheers.

Well we did Lee, but only up to our knees to tail and/or release the fish! Never had the opportunity for a death defying flotation suit clad double pike with twist, so we're a bit envious. Seriously, though, never had a better scrap from a fish - totally brilliant!

Saturday evening smut fest (pics)

I've been banging on recently about how desperate I've become to catch my first smut - any size, any variety I really don't care. Called my brother Adi yesterday lunchtime to see if he fancied joining me at Hayling for a session last night, but he suggested we try a relatively unknown W Sussex beach...

Well done Lee - you certainly keep the catches (and laughs!) coming. Glad it all worked out OK in the end and that your only problems were dampness and embarrassment. Kev

Fished another West Sussex mark from low tide up yesterday evening and, though the weed was a pain to begin with, 11 hounds between two of us - all over 7lb - sort of made up for it!! I'll post a full report with pics shortly when I've worked out how to upload the pics.

Cheers

I'll be fishing either Hayling or Selsey on Saturday night in the hope of a smut.

I spent 2 weeks last September based in St Helens and imagine that it is the rocky area in front of the old church (the big white building on the beach) that Conga is referring to - Bembridge Harbour being the other end of the beach. There's plenty of rocky/weedy areas at the Duver end that you woul...

If you stand on the groyne looking out to sea, the beach we fished is to the right. We fished the groyne first and caught wrasse and schoolies then walked back up the beach a good 2-300 yds, possibly further. I'll try to find the picture and attach it.

Greg. I've had a good (3lb 7oz) ballan wrasse from the beach along from the groyne on squid. I could see darker patches through the fairly clear water and cast to one of those, assuming it to be rough or weedy ground. The wrasse nearly took my rod in so I thought at first that it was a bass! We also...

Thanks for the response Martin. The chap in Channel Angling where I bought bait said that the May bloom (algal bloom) is late this year - that may be why fishing generally (both at Samphire and Shoreham) has yet to get going properly. Might be the explanation..... The shad, golden-grey mullet, bream...
