mudlark, keith thanks a bunch for the input. just for the record........... I casted non-braked, non-maged reels for years, mostly newell 200 and 300 series. Broke both my hands in a commercial fishing aciddent a couple of years ago. Now my hands and thumbs!!! could use a little help longcasting. ch...

ABU 7000( NONE MAG) BRAKES OR NO BRAKES ?????

What do you think is the best configuration for a 7000. Looking for the best combination of max. distance and least number of birds nests. No brakes, 1 brake, 2 brake etc????

sometimes its nice just to walk the beach and work the breaking water with lures.... sometimes you catch fish!sometimes you dont. but still nice

fish following lures but not taking is very common. one technique that can compell these fish to strike is rigging a teaser in front of your main lure. A small red gill or fly tied in front of a swimming plug or hair jig can make all the difference sometimes.

I've found that by far the best method to dispatch and to improve flavour is bleed the fish. A couple of clouts to stun it, then cut a couple of gill rakers and let it bleed out and die. Once dead, gut it immediately. Job done. I agree with fishing bloke. Bleeding a fish may not be pretty but with ...
