East Cork Beach Report, 11-6-11

with the closed season for bass still in effect untill thursday the 16th ive been doing a lot of flattie bashing with good results, mainly small fish but in good numbers. i decided to try for another load of them last saturday so headed off armed with about 150 maddies, a handfull of rag and a fresh...

this isnt spicificaly an answer to your question but its good to know, got it from another forum from which the thread was entitled "understanding the tides" as a result of recent safety concerns and near misses by anglers ive decided to post this for those who dont quite understand the tidal cycle ...

i tried circle hooks but didnt like them, moved onto offset hooks and loved them, i found a better hook up than circles, equally good for c&r and much better bait presentation.
the gamakatsu brand are the ones ive used, not the cheapest but very sharp and strong. well worth the money.

im not sure if it makes a difference or not but i dont take the chance so i peel them, de-lung them and then freeze. i read a post elsewhere about the damage the lungs/gills can do when a crab is frozen with the lungs still intact. some call it nonsense, others reckon its true. a lot of people recko...

as far as im concerned the only beads that work are the floating/pop up beads. i believe its not the bead itself that "attracts" the fish but the buoyancy that does the job. it makes the bait act differently in the water and that attracts the take. this is just my opinion tho as it works for me, oth...

kinda makes me glad that the irish politicians and councils are just corrupt and not just plain daft. i could understand it if angling was barred between certain hours but a straight up ban is just ridiculous. whos gonna be swimming between 9pm and 8am when the majority of angling will be done? is t...

be carefull of taking crabs from other peoples traps,. there are horror stories about of lads putting broken glass into tyres to stop people raiding them and ive aslo heard of people getting back to their cars to find windows smashed.
these are extremes tho and dont happen every day but be carefull.

this is a very good site for the tide times, http://easytide.ukho.gov.uk/EasyTide/EasyTide/SelectPort.aspx click "show ports" and choose the nearest one to where you are going to fish. one slight problem with it is it doesnt have the daylight saving set in the times so change it to 1 hour, click app...

why dont manufacturers take transport into consideration when designing rods. i used to think that but now own 3 rods with an 8ft section and another one around the 7ft. i drive a saloon and have half the back seat folded down and the front passenger seat reclined fully so the rods go from the boot...

who was talking about rocks ? scuffed and abraded leader is just as dangerous as scuffed and abraded mainline.... the guy is obviously new to fishing so wont have a proper idea of the ground he is casting over. even clean beaches can have the odd rock that will damage the mainline. the point i was ...
