Hi Tophat, I use breakaways on Deal beach & 6oz should be good. The regular spot I fish (I know I ought to try others too) is pretty snag free. I was told that the groynes indicate longshore drift, i.e. the tendancy for the tide to wash along the beach not just in and out, and ordinary pear weight w...

What'll this weather do for fishing?
Hi Everyone, As a "born again" angler ( returned this year after a break of 30 years ) with fairly minimal early experience, I'm looking for the advice / opinions from the experienced south-east regulars. Given the rather wintery weather forecast for Saturday night, and force 6 - 8 NW winds, do you ...

I like Gaz's idea of incorporating iron filings, but how about using a cementeous self levelling compound (you can get it in DIY shops easy enough). It has very fine granules so pours into the mould well; it has similar density to concrete too, and has a fair amount of PVA type binders. Ok, it's les...

Hi Tom, Welcome to Kent and to the forum. I used to live in Faversham, too, and miss the smell from the Shepherd Neame Brewery. Sadly there isn't much to be had along that stretch of the coast - well, not for me anyway! Similarly, I have tried, recently, along the coast between Whitstable & Herne Ba...

Kentishman, Thanks for reply. We based ourselves about 50 yards away from the working section of beach, where they haul in the small fishing vessels....and I suppose about 200 yards from the Army Firing Range. It was handy as we parked next to the sea wall. It's the first time that I've been to Hyth...

Whiting? Whiting? I would LOVE to have caught a Whiting today. What did I catch? Nuffing! X( Just home after spending 1030 till 1530 at Hythe casting generously rag / lug /squid baited rigs and reeling them back in almost untouched. My lad pulled a 10" bass in, and the guy down the beach a similar p...

The Fox Guide to Seafishing explains that the F/S rod, as you know, is fished with the reel & line beneath the rod, and hence, when put under strain reeling in a fish, the rod effectively arcs up and away from the path of the line. This rod needs to have a nice fat first ring due to the way that the...

Deal beach night
On Friday I opted for a night fishing Deal beach instead. Couple of small Pollack, one small Bass and not much else, though something was getting fat on our sandeels and peelers!

Sandwich Bay @ night
Hi everyone, I've just returned to sea fishing after a long break, and have thought a spot of night fishing this Friday could be interesting. As I don't want to travel too far, I thought that Sandwich Bay might throw up something good. Does anyone know if they (the private estate that owns it) allow...
