i fish lowestoft south pier quite often, and a cast of 20-30yrds is enough, sometimes even closer in. clip down rigs are not really needed, around here most of us just use flapper rigs for the pier. the ability to cast straight is important though,as piers can get busy and nothing worse than somebody c...

i feel for the guy, hopefully his insurance (if any) should cover it.i know its not the point as you gain a sentimental bond with your tackle.

hope he gets it back,in whatever form that may be

also some silicon tubing does the same thing,on the snood (hook length) slide some tubing up (about an inch) then slide the pennell hook, slide tubing over eye of the hook and hey presto.

I like to do a couple of turns of the line around the pennell hook also.

your better off going beyond the small boats and towards the end of the caravans on the cliff top, plenty of whiting (would expect a codling or two soon though).cefas way whiting again but with dabs thrown in,and still the odd basslet or two close in.

if you go and park up by the caravan park you can still have some beach to fish from. going along beach road ,down slope and right you'll find there is hardly any beach left, if you google map the area you'll see roughly what im on about
