Well if you are intending to dig for harbour rag, Then park in the car park just past the brodge, the Shotley side.
Walk back and just about under the bridge, you will see concrete with a outlet pipe.
It is usually smelly and muddy.
Thats where the tiny harbour rag are

Ipswich side of the bridge.
I am a bit lazy for digging so I used lug mainly.
we did dig a few times which seemed ok.

As the fish are used to having harbour rag in the area, I believe that it makes sense to use what is there.
we only ever caught flatties. 2 hrs up and 2 down

Thanks for the link Euge :D
I was out fishing last week and got snagged, the line broke.
I am so bad at knots, I could not remember how to do it.
I have spent the last 30 mins practising the knot on the link you provided.

A main line of 30lb seems over the top.
The shockleader for lbs,is if you are casting a six ounce lead, then you should be using 60lb of shockleader. ie-4 oz lead=40lb shock. 5 oz=50lb shock
The rig should be the same as the shockleader you use.

I used to go fishing under the orwell bridge, on the wherstaed rd side.
There is an outlet pipe roughly under the bridge, which is a great place to dig harbour rag.
