Hi Mate, A few years ago I was in the same situation as you and started off by catching next to nothing. I got fed up with that and knowing that others were indeed catching quite regularly, decided to learn all I could. Fortunately the local tackle shop was quite informative (not all are as good) an...

It may be different elsewhere but a bright moon always seems to kill the fishing on Hayling in my experience over the last ten years.

Know what you mean mate but I belong to two other sites and they don't seem that lively at the moment either.

What a great day Mick. Not surprised, according to my bro who lives nearby, if you try near the Eastern Road bridge, you can find some larger ones around the top of the tide.

You are a better man than me mate. I used to try for the blighters in Exmouth Dock when I lived there but rarely succeeded. Annoying thing was, there was a 16 year old there who used to get them all the time.

Hey, what a cracker and cheers for a good report. Makes me think I should have a go on Hayling. I know they are there but last time I had a go several years ago, I could see the blodders circling around but was totally frustrated with the lack of bites. The great expert (Sunny on Beach & Boat) alway...

Well if it worked 20 years ago, it is still going to work now Geoff. We constantly hear about new wonder lures which cost an arm and a leg of course but the basics don't change. I knew an old geezer a few years ago who was still putting home made "silver paper" on his mackerel lures. "Well it works ...

DEFRA's estimate eh? Well I take that with a pinch of salt. I fished Hayling as you know regularly from 2004 until now. Up to around 2012 I also caught a number of largish bass every year but from that year onward my catch began to dwindle significantly. Would that be because the number of anglers s...

Amazing that in just three or four years bass stocks should fall to such an extent if that is true. In my own experience, it was not difficult to take a few sizable bass off the south coast beaches up to 2012 but there have been far fewer since then. It can only be commercial over-fishing if it is t...

I just don't bother these days when there is a high full moon (unless there is cloud cover), seems to always put the kibosh on fishing.

Always catch mine with lug. The important bit is to not react with to the first little trembly bites, hang on for a few minutes until you get a definite tug or two which is when Mr Sole has got himself hooked. Then just reel in. Use size 2 long shank Aberdeens by the way on short snoods and don't ke...

Ah well Jack, bream have small gobs so one has to use small hooks and personally I use size 2 VMC 7240's. Not the cheapest by any means but they stay sharp and bright for much longer than the average hook.

Finally got down the beach (Hayling)

Having spent quite a bit of time this year doing up me bathroom and daughter's house, finally made the effort this morning. Bream hunting was the game with "iknowagoodplaice" but the fish were a bit reluctant. Eventually the aforesaid got three with two to take home but yours only managed the one li...
