Another one you could also try at low water is also off of the rocks behind Canvey Football Club in Park Lane. Bit of a walk out accross the rocks but not too much further than Scars Elbow at low water............
Good Mark in the summer too in my experience

I dont think any of the Penn 525s "auto-engage" like the abu's, you have to manually put them back in gear by flicking the lever back over. Personally this is a good thing for me, as i prefer to put my reel right at the butt of my rod, and this stops the reel clicking back into gear if I catch the h...

Suicidal Whiting.........

Being as that nearly every time I have been out You have to hope that the whiting leave the bait alone long enough for a cod to find it, and that I havent had a particularly good "Cod campaign" so to speak with only a few to count so far, Would it be any good using the whiting as bait, as can fillet...

Will my reel cut it???

Im off out on a charter trip with a neighbour and a few freinds after xmas, and wondered if anybody could give me a bit of advice. The reel i have is an ABU 6500. Its not a mag or anything special, just a plain old 6500 with a levelwind, which i bought from a friend for 20quid. Would this be up to a...

Well I went and picked the rod up the other day and took it for a few casts up on the sea wall and it wasnt too bad, but went last night for a couple of hours fishing. Well pleased with it, shows up bites quite a fair way out from small whiting and the small bass i caught (which did take me by supri...

I wouldnt like to say really myself........ went out for a couple of hours last night, wind was NE. Didnt really catch mutch at all, had 2 small whiting and a small (and i do mean small) Schooly. Bit of a suprise how a bass that small managed to get a 2/0 hook in its mouth, as it was only about 10" ...

Crabs??????

Do crabs actually peel at this time of year, or am i wasting my time lookin for them. I have quite a few frozen at home but was looking to top them up, but havent found any at all. I thought they were just few and far between at this time of year.

I am right handed myself, but find it easy enough to cast with my reel set low and controlling it with my left hand. This then gives you the bonus of getting a good grip of the rod and having your stronger arm to push the rod through the cast. I have tried casting the other way round out of curiosit...

As well as worm, this is also a good way of using softer baits such as mussels, cockles and other shellfish. Might be worth trying, as these can be rather underated as bait.

I get on just fine with my 525 mag at night, as ive found that if you listen to the reel when you cast, then you can hear the reel slow drasticly when the weight hits the water, and then that's the moment to instantly stop the spool. Then just let the line out slowly as you would at any other time, ...

One way to try, is to take a junior hacksaw, and cut a continuous spiral aournd the reel seat from one end to the other. Then basically untwist it from around the rod. Obviously you have to be very very careful not to damage the rod.

Oiled worms???

Has anybody tried the new fad of oiled black lugworms rather than frozen??
Apparently oiling them and then not freezing stops them turning into mush when they'r in the water, Like frozen worms turn when they thaw out.
Has anybody tried them and have you had any luck ????

With the head and guts section you have left, if you have another rod with you and a big enough hook, why not lob the head and guts out on a flowing trace with a 6/0 ish sized hook, You never know, with all that scent in the water, you may be lucky enough to hook a decent sized bass if its the right...
