Had a paddle and fish near Pennington Marsh today. I plan to go after stingray there when its peak summertime & possibly Sow...

Hi Dave

Hopefully the weather wasn't too bad today and you managed to fish your chosen mark. Look forward to hearing about how you got on.

To add to what Paul's said you could also try fishing for plaice if its a warmer sunny day on the opposite side of Studland Bay which is in between the main entrance and Gerrys Point. There will be crabs around though. Perhaps a slow retrieve with a baited spoon could produce the goods.

Hi Ian Sounds like great fun well done! We also have big rays (common skate) in the UK but they're localised found at marks off the coast of Scotland .. (rays are sometimes called skate in the UK especially the larger ones) Common skate can easily reach over 200lb with commercial catches reporting u...

Hi Lord Arioch Good question. The length of the drop should be according to the type of cast you are making, the length of the rod and your own body height & arm length. For a basic overhead thump I would give about a 5-6ft drop from a 12-13ft beachcaster.. if the drop is too short you probably wont...

I've heard the parking around there is not too safe and some just park in the nearby golf course? Is this venue easy to find or would it be best go down there fir...

No its not a wind up I'll be looking to fit a finder soon. Going from your comments I can see how the resolution is important as more detail enables you to distinguish between different objects and types of fish -- also didnt think there would be much difference between mono and colour hadn't though...

Floating fishing or spinning from the rocks in the Purbeck area should yield results... try Dancing Ledge a few miles west from Swanage.

Thanks Morvargh. Haven't used a fishfinder before.. if anything it should be useful for depth information.. a basic question but "do they work??!!!".. I guess your answer may depend on which unit is being used -- how effective are they are at distinguishing between fish and other things like weed or...
