Interesting encounter but the fishing would have to be good to be worth the grief. Crown Estates own much of the foreshore around the UK, but the MOD own some too, and probably they own that particular section. Then there is the question of whether being on the shore there constitutes trespass or cr...

It's based on a survey of anglers - attracted a fair bit of publicity at the time. I think it's been a gradual decline, the affect if which suddenly becomes apparent - one bad spawning year, that sort of thing. But it's true the commercials take the biggest share, and I imagine that will grow, notwi...

Absolutely correct Eccles, the effect of recreational anglers on bass stocks is miniscule. It is a shame that the restrictions applied to commercial fishermen are not as onerous, pro rata, as those applied to us anglers (max. 3 fish per angler, min. size 42cm). Our fishing club (predominately boat ...

Bass shoals could collapse
Latest scientific observations suggest bass are in greater peril than we thought. Think twice before you keep one.

Cautionary article about the impact of our fishing
Interesting piece about the waste being laid to the shore fishing around S Africa. Worth bearing in mind when anglers tell you their catch has no impact on fish populations. Some big fish pictures too. http://www.planetseafishing.com/features/read/the-basin-effect-a-common-phenomenon-that-fools-us-a...

That's an interesting tip Roy. Presumably they don't ever fly off during the cast (?) Most people seem to chop their crab up and wrap it onto the hook. Never used crab myself but that looks a nice clean way to do it, and you don't have to worry about peelers. Once caught a 2lb bass on fly and it was...

Happy Easter all. Flatty fishing, in my extremely limited experience, does seem generally better at slack water - certainly was true out in boats. Since I never catch any plaice off the beach I have no evidence to offer there. Be interested to know if anything is caught well away from HW, which seem...

I presume you are fishing off the beach. As a user of both reels - when I actually go fishing that is - I note advantages and drawbacks to both. Multipliers are very nice to use and a good one (don't buy cheapies) should not be difficult to use with the mag brakes, or even just the inertial. The mai...
