Hi Danny
You have a PM, possibly 2.....

Isles of Scilly

Hello all I'm off to the Isles of Scilly in Sept and wondered if anyone had experience of fishing over there. I've done some internet searching but can't seem to find much out. Strangely what I have found doesn't mention bass in the species lists despite listing most things..... Anyway any info grea...

Hi there Hursty Try the Coombe Martin Sea Angling club website - www.cmsac.co.uk - I think thats right anyway. Theres a good bit of info on shore venues in a down loadable guide which I've used a bit. Also try Paul Barbary for boat trips out of Illfracombe. I've used him a few times and had some cra...

My 10 pence worth is that these areas are going to happen whatever we say but that it is important that we as anglers say something. If we don't then these areas will be imposed without our views which may mean some of the best areas become off limits to us. Also fisheries policy has been dictated f...

Many thanks for the replies everyone. I think its completley knackered now as the handle won't turn at all.... I will take it apart for a look but I don't hold out much hope.

The Christmas list will have an extra item!

Once again very many thanks

Fixed Spool Reel Problem

Hello all I think I already know the answer to this one but thought I would ask anyway...... I have a Shimano f/spool reel which I've been using for spinning plugging etc. Its always been rinsed off and has been absolutely fine up til now. It now makes a grinding sound as the handle is cranked. So t...

Hi Mulletfly I meant to post a reply sooner but other things got in the way..... You could try - a fast sinking line, v short leader (approx 2-3ft) and a clouser type fly - a 1/0 size. then a retrive, pause retrieve the idea being to kick up puffs of silt/sand. Also a booby on a slightly longer lead...

Hi Andy and Steve
Thanks for your posts. I think I've nailed it as a red sea bream - blackish spot behind the gill cover. Wish I'd had a camera with me as that would have been confirmation. Oh well....

Thanks again

I agree this is a very good book. You could also try 'Bass and B.A.S.S' from the Bass Anglers Sportfishing Society. Its a collection of articles on bass fishing and although it covers all methods it does have quite a few articles on swffing for them. You can get it from www.anglersbookcase.com Richard

Lulworth 17.10.09 - Still Smiling!!

Thought I would give a quick report from my trip last weekend. Not having any bait I was spinning but without any interest deceided to use a popper. Hadn't had any sniffs on one before so wasn't too confident but ended up with 2 bass - one at around 2.5lb and the other around 7lb!!!!! My first good ...

Mystery Fish at Abbotsbury

Hi all Just thought I would make a quick post after my trip to Abbotsbury yesterday. Managed after several blank trips to finally catch something other than mackeral - a red bream! At least thats what I think it was - rose coloured, bream shaped fish with a dark line along each flank. It weighed 2lb...

I've used them for night fishing for sea trout in freshwater without too many problems (no seatrout though!!) although they are a bit fiddley but not sure if they would last in the sea.... RP
