I used to use a trolley on big hikes for fishing both freshwater and sea, it was a godsend when i was younger as carrying all my tackle was physically demanding, as ive grown its not so much of a problem however the trolley is still outstandingly useful. only downside is small wheebas ones tip over ...

I beg to differ - i dont like any sideways movement of the spool as it uses up extra energy which i'd rather was going into the cast! I tighten them just until any left/right movement has stopped, but only just. this means the spools is sitting on the bearings properly and is making contact with them.

Accelerators are not designed to be bent easily - i used to use one and im about to have it rebuilt as an out and out conger basher. I've lifted 15lb of weight dead from the floor with it, and i dare say it would have taken a fair bit more. It's a real beefy rod and i found its practically useless w...

cheers lads, see my problem is i want to make leads at the absolute minimum price, which in my mind means forming my own lead loops and wires. The problem is i can't seem to find stainless in bulk (100metres+). I was going to use annodised wires but i don't feel they'd be up to scratch. to be honest...

Line will likely be nylon, not good stuff!

The lures on the other hand will likely be okay, just replace the split rings and hooks for better quality items :)

Very little lasts long at sea anyway, so theres little point splashing out on expensive lures!

A carp rod can generally cast upto 4 ounces, however over this i dare say your pushing your luck. however, cheaper carp rods will happily send 6 ounces of lead out as long as you dont try too hard, otherwise they will just buckle and shatter.

I must admit im struggling to find wires for grippers outside of galvanised wires... stainless is hard to come by online in the approriate Dia. (which is where id like to buy ideally).

Thanks alot! :D I've got a bid in on some bicycle spokes (bulk at 2mm each) and ill invest in some spring wire too. its all adding up price wise but fortunately (minus gas) it's not too bad and it'll pay itself off! Can i ask, im slightly confused, but when you say normal grip wires do you mean for ...

As an apposing point i used to use a 12ft beachcaster as a spod rod because spod rods were never sufficient for my reservoir breaming sessions!

Hey mate. I wouldn't buy a beach rod at all. Nor a sea rod. They are generally designed to be heavy duty angling toolds designed for casting 50yards plus. i expect a 7 year old to be able to cast barely 30 to be honest! A good heavy duty Pike/carp rod would be the best item in my opinion, theyre lig...
